Kolophonium in German

Kolophonium ist ein gelbes bis braunschwarzes Baumharz mit muscheligem Bruch und Glasglanz. Der Name ist von der lydischen Stadt Kolophon abgeleitet, die als antikes Handelszentrum für Kolophonium gilt. In der Neuzeit erfolgte die Einfuhr überwiegend aus Nordamerika. Es ist ein natürliches Harz, das aus dem Balsam von Kiefern, Fichten und Tannen (Koniferen) bzw. dem bei der Papierherstellung gewonnenen Tallöl hergestellt wird. Als Kolophonium werden die festen Bestandteile dieser Baumharze bezeichnet, die nach der Abtrennung der flüchtigen Bestandteile (Terpentinöl) mittels Destillation zurückbleiben. Der Harzanteil beträgt etwa 70 %, die restlichen Inhaltsstoffe setzen sich aus ca. 20 % Terpentinöl und 10 % Wasser zusammen.
