n : a bantu language [syn: kinyarwanda]
is the official language of Rwanda and a dialect of the Kinyarwanda-Kirundi-Rufumbira language spoken by a total of at least 20 million people in Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo and adjacent parts of south west Uganda. (The Kirundi dialect is the official language of neighboring Burundi.). Rufumbira is spoken in south-west Uganda.
Kinyarwanda is the national language and also one of the three official languages of Rwanda (along with English and French), and is spoken by all of the native population. This contrasts with most modern African states, whose borders were drawn by colonial powers and did not correspond to ethnic boundaries or pre-colonial kingdoms.
