The plant called Coriandrum sativum is found in Egypt, Persia and India, and has a round tall stalk; it bears umbelliferous white or reddish flowers, from which arise globular, grayish, spicy seed-corns, marked with fine striae. It is mentioned twice in the Bible. (Exodus 16:31; Numbers 11:7)

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), also known as cilantro, Chinese parsley or dhania, is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae. Coriander is native to regions spanning from southern Europe and North Africa to southwestern Asia. It is a soft plant growing to tall. The leaves are variable in shape, broadly lobed at the base of the plant, and slender and feathery higher on the flowering stems. The flowers are borne in small umbels, white or very pale pink, asymmetrical, with the petals pointing away from the centre of the umbel longer than those pointing toward it (only long). The fruit is a globular, dry schizocarp  in diameter. Although sometimes eaten alone, the seeds often are used as a spice or an added ingredient in other foods.

Chinese parsley is also called coriander, cilantro and dhania (fresh coriander in India). Cilantro is the fresh green leaves and stems of the herb coriander. It can be used to flavor Chinese and Indian recipes and can also be used in Mexican and southwestern cooking.
While coriander seedlings look a bit like Italian parsley, the flavor is not the same.
One can stuff coriander leaves inside poultry, chop onto fish, add to cream cheese, and use in the same way you use parsley, but less generously, unless you like a dominant licorice flavor.

Heb. gad, (Ex. 16:31; Num. 11:7), seed to which the manna is likened in its form and colour. It is the Coriandrum sativum of botanists, an umbelliferous annual plant with a round stalk, about two feet high. It is widely cultivated in Eastern countries and in the south of Europe for the sake of its seeds, which are in the form of a little ball of the size of a peppercorn. They are used medicinally and as a spice. The Greek name of this plant is korion or koriannon, whence the name "coriander."
