Cancer in English
Cancer The Crab. Fourth zodiacal sign, being watery, cardinal, feminine, and the only house of the moon; in astrology it corresponds to the stomach and breast. Its symbol is a crab; in Sanskrit it is called Karkataka, and is dedicated to Surya, the god of the sun. In the Hebrew allocation of the signs to the 12 sons of Jacob, it is give to Benjamin, who is said to ravin as a wolf. This sign is that of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and is associated with heat, but in the southern hemisphere it is at the winter solstice, and we are told of times when the earth's poles were inverted so that the south pole was in Cancer.
According to Subba Row (Theos 3:42), Cancer represents the sacred Tetragram; the Parabrahmatharaca; the Pranava resolved into four separate entities corresponding to its four matras; the four avastas or four states of consciousness; the four states of Brahman, etc. Cancer, Carcinoma A malignant opithelial tumor composed of a connective tissue-stroma surrounding groups or nests of multiplying epithelial cells. In general, carcinomas have capacity for unlimited growth, for invading adjacent tissues, and for producing similar typical growths in distant tissues in the same body or, as in experimental research, by grafts which take in another animal's body. These multiplying cells, drawing freely upon the nutritive materials of the living matter, pile up an unorganized, functionless, purposeless, uncontrolled local mass of its own cells running riot at the expense of the body.

cancer
\can"cer\ (?), n. [l. cancer, cancri, crab, ulcer, a sign of the zodiac; akin to gr. karki`nos, skr. karka&tsdot;a crab, and prob. skr. karkara hard, the crab being named from its hard shell. cf. canner, chancre.]
1. (zo?l.) a genus of decapod crustacea, including some of the most common shore crabs of europe and north america, as the rock crab, jonah crab, etc. see crab.
2. (astron.) (a) the fourth of the twelve signs of the zodiac. the first point is the northern limit of the sun's course in summer; hence, the sign of the summer solstice. see tropic. (b) a northern constellation between gemini and leo.
3. (med.) formerly, any malignant growth, esp. one attended with great pain and ulceration, with cachexia and progressive emaciation. it was so called, perhaps, from the great veins which surround it, compared by the ancients to the claws of a crab. the term is now restricted to such a growth made up of aggregations of epithelial cells, either without support or embedded in the meshes of a trabecular framework.
note: four kinds of cancers are recognized: (1) epithelial cancer, or epithelioma, in which there is no trabecular framework. see epithelioma. (2) scirrhous cancer, or hard cancer, in which the framework predominates, and the tumor is of hard consistence and slow growth. (3) encephaloid, medullary, or soft cancer, in which the cellular element predominates, and the tumor is soft, grows rapidy, and often ulcerates. (4) colloid cancer, in which the cancerous structure becomes gelatinous. the last three varieties are also called carcinoma.
cancer
cells, cells once believed to be peculiar to cancers, but now know to be epithelial cells differing in no respect from those found elsewhere in the body, and distinguished only by peculiarity of location and grouping.
cancer
root (bot.), the name of several low plants, mostly parasitic on roots, as the beech drops, the squawroot, etc.

Cancer , known medically as a malignant neoplasm, is a broad group of diseases involving unregulated cell growth. In cancer, cells divide and grow uncontrollably, forming malignant tumors, and invading nearby parts of the body. The cancer may also spread to more distant parts of the body through the lymphatic system or bloodstream. Not all tumors are cancerous; benign tumors do not invade neighboring tissues and do not spread throughout the body. There are over 200 different known cancers that affect humans.

There are several main types of cancer. Carcinoma is cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma is cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia is cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow, and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the bloodstream. Lymphoma and multiple myeloma are cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system.

To have one successfully treated in a dream, denotes a sudden rise from obscure poverty to wealthy surroundings. To dream of a cancer, denotes illness of some one near you, and quarrels with those you love. Depressions may follow to the man of affairs after this dream. To dream of a cancer, foretells sorrow in its ugliest phase. Love will resolve itself into cold formality, and business will be worrying and profitless.

Also called malignancy. Cancer refers to a abnormal growths which have a tendency to grow uncontrolled and metastasize. It can involve any tissue of the body and can have many different forms in each body area. Cancer is a group of more than 100 different diseases. Benign tumors are not cancer; malignant tumors are cancer. Most cancers are named for the type of cell or the organ in which they begin. When cancer spreads (metastasizes), the new tumor has the same name as the original (primary) tumor. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer for both men and women. The second most common cancer in men is prostate cancer, in women it is breast cancer. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer for both men and women in the U.S. Cancer is NOT contagious.
