are a six-piece group formed in 1999 containing Kate Pierson (of The B-52s), bassist Mick Karn (of Japan), vocalist Yuki Isoya (of Judy and Mary), Takemi Shima and Masahide Sakuma (both of The Plastics, and Steven Wolf, the session drummer. Masahide composed most of the music with input from Pierson and Yuki who also wrote the lyrics. From the 30-second opening track, which starts with ominous techno music and ends with Yuki and Pierson exclaiming "Hello everybody nice to meet you we're NiNa," the band's eponymous and only album is very diverse.

La Niña (Spanish for The Girl) was one of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus in his first voyage towards the Indies in 1492. The ship was originally called the Santa Clara, but was changed to La Niña. The name Niña was probably a pun on the name of her owner, Juan Niño of Moguer. She was a standard caravel-type vessel.

"Draumur um Nínu" (English translation: "A Dream About Nína", sometimes known as "Nína") was the Icelandic entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991, performed in Icelandic by Eyjólfur Kristjánsson and Stefán Hilmarsson under the name "Stefán & Eyfi". Although the song did not fare too well in the contest it has remained one of Iceland's most popular songs of all time, still receiving regular airplay. An indication of the song's enduring popularity is that when it is played in Reykjavik bars and nightclubs the patrons usually join in.
